Nagoya University is one of the top ranked universities in Japan. Here, students and scholars work together, engage in top-notch research to pursue scientific discoveries and invent new state-of-the-art technologies. Six Nobel Prizes have been awarded to scholars associated with Nagoya University. Dr. Hiroshi Amano, Professor of Engineering, remains an active faculty member, teaching, directing, and overseeing research activities in his laboratory. He was awarded the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics for inventing the energy-efficient blue light-emitting diode (LED) together with Professor Isamu Akasaki and Professor Shuji Nakamura at UC Santa Barbara. This invention changed our world and our daily lives. Nagoya University students study with top scholars in their fields, such as Dr. Amano. Today, Nagoya University is internationalizing the campus and promoting diversity. For more than a decade, we have offered English-taught programs as an essential part of our mission. Just before the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of international students reached almost 3,000. Students came from over 100 countries and regions. Although the number of students dropped because of the pandemic, the number of applicants for the Global 30 International Programs hit a record high in 2021. We continue to promote internationalization. Nagoya University offers students financial aid programs to ensure accessibility. Students can apply for the G30 scholarship from Nagoya University and MEXT scholarship from the Japanese government. In 2021, the Japanese government also introduced new funding schemes to provide financial aid to Ph.D. candidates. Almost every Ph.D. candidate now receives full scholarship/grant support and/or tuition fee exemption. The pandemic had a terrible and long-lasting impact on the livelihoods of our students. In recognition of this, Nagoya University is providing more opportunities for our students to find and join groups, or meet individuals, on campus that match their interests. To encourage interaction among our students, we are constructing a new 7,000 square meters building in the campus's heart, between the subway station and Central Library. The new building should encourage Japanese students, international students, and faculty members to mix and socialize with each other and with people in the local community. It will open in 2024. Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science and Mechanics are some of the fields where NU leads internationally with cutting-edge research. The high achievements of NU alumni and researchers demonstrate both the university’s commitment to the creation of knowledge and the quality of work produced. Our ground-breaking scholarship is passed on to our students through coursework and research projects with faculty members dedicated to producing a new cohort of scholars.

Nagoya University China Center for International Exchange (Shanghai, China)
Nagoya University China Center for International Exchange was established in November 2005 with the aims of facilitating academic exchange with higher education and research institutes in China, promoting public relations in China, and connecting NU alumni overseas.

Uzbekistan Office (Tashkent, Uzbekistan)
The Uzbekistan Office was set up in March 2010 as a shared overseas office for Japanese universities. Its role is to promote the recruitment of students in Uzbekistan and to enhance cooperation activities related to international students for Japanese universities.

European Center (Freiburg, Germany)
The European Center was set up in April 2010 in cooperation with University of Freiburg as a base for research, education, international exchanges and other activities. The aim is to increase Nagoya University’s presence in Europe.

Technology Partnership of Nagoya University Inc. (Morrisville, NC, USA)
Since its foundation, Nagoya University has created numerous research innovations and provided many highly skilled human resources to industry. Because of its high priority on alliance building between academia and industry, Nagoya University continues to achieve the highest licensing revenue of all universities in Japan. In October 2007, Technology Partnership of Nagoya University Inc. was established in the state of North Carolina to enhance technology exchange between the U.S. and Japan, especially the Nagoya area.

The Bangkok Office (Bangkok, Thailand)
The Bangkok Office was established in April 2014, aiming to facilitate academic exchange between Nagoya University and higher education and research institutes in Thailand as well as to promote public relations of Nagoya University in Thailand and the ASEAN region.
