Visiting Campus

Everyone is welcome to visit our campus and some public facilities which are open for public. If you would like to talk to an Admissions Coordinator, please check this link to book your appointment and get detailed information about the access.
When visiting our campus, it is advised to come by public transportation as parking space within the campus area is limited. 

Staying Around Campus Area
Nagoya University has its own station inside the campus, making it easy to commute from the city center so visitors can also opt to stay in city center. Please note that students’ dormitory cannot host guests including family and relatives.There are several family friendly hotels around the campus.


Daily Life

Dormitory
G30 International Programs students are housed in the Ishida Memorial International Residence Myoken for the first year of their studies. The dormitory is a single occupancy room and fully furnished with a bathroom and kitchenette. Each floor is equipped with a laundry room and separate floors are designated for boys and girls respectively. The dormitory is about 15 minutes walking distance from the main campus and 2 minutes by subway station. Cafes, restaurants, convenience stores and supermarkets are available around the campus area. The dormitory is guaranteed for freshmen from overseas to support their first year living in Japan. There are many residents and apartments around the campus for students when they need to move out. There is a housing seminar conducted twice a year for students to get more information about getting housing in Japan.

NU Graduate students are assigned as tutors to help out the residents should there be any problems related to dorm life. The dormitory staff are also present in the building during the day for assistance. 

Mobile Phones and Contracts in Japan
In order to make a contract with a cell service provider company, students need to be at least 20 years old.
There are several types of subscriptions that students can take: pre-paid, post paid, short-term and long-term contract.

Living in Nagoya City
Nagoya is the 4th largest city in Japan with approximately 2.3 million residents. Located in the center of Japan, Nagoya is easily accessible; 1.5 hours from Tokyo and approx. 30 minutes from Kyoto by the bullet train. 
Chubu Centrair International Airport is located about 1 hour from the city center and easily accessible by train, buses and private cars.

Diet
Maintaining a certain diet is something not easy but possible in Japan. Nagoya University cafeterias offer halal and vegetarian menus. There are also vegan and halal restaurants, bakeries and shops around the campus and in Nagoya city.

Japan National Health Insurance
International students are required to subscribe to the Japan National Health Insurance. 
Subscribers to this program will pay 30% of medical and dental fees when they get treatments under the insurance.

Graduation Ceremony
Nagoya University Fall Graduation Ceremony is held at the end of September. G30 program students will attend the ceremony along with other graduating students. Parents are welcomed to attend the ceremony. Public transportation is recommended as cars will not be allowed to enter the campus due to limited space. 

Courses
G30 International Undergraduate Programs are full-degree programs taught in English which take four years to complete. All applicants are required to choose their intended majors at the time of application. If your child is not sure which program to apply for, you can encourage them to go over each program curriculum and syllabus on our homepage. 

Exchange Program
Nagoya University has over 450 agreements with international institutions worldwide. The NU Study Abroad Office supports students who consider studying abroad with their planning and application processes. Any student can request an individual consultation from the office. School schedule 
Each academic year consists of two semesters; fall and spring. Fall semester is from October 1st to March 31st and spring semester is from April 1st to September 30th. Dates of the summer and winter breaks are announced each year along with the Academic Calendar
Class time for standard courses is 90 minutes. Some courses, such as laboratory courses, might be longer. Daily schedule looks like this:

Tutor system
All G30 students are assigned student tutors when they start their studies at NU for a minimum of six months to help them get accustomed to life in Japan. Tutors help the students in a variety of activities ranging from course registry to house hunting.
 

Finance and Financial Aid

Part-time Work
International students who wish to work part time are required to apply for a part-time work permit to the Immigration Bureau beforehand. The permitted maximum working hours is 28 hours per week. However, this is limited to 8 hours per day during long holidays such as spring vacation or summer vacation.

Tuition Fee Exemptions
Independently-financed degree-seeking students, who demonstrate excellent academic records and are in need of financial assistance, are eligible to be considered for half or full exemption.

National Disaster Mitigation
University-wide earthquake drills are annually conducted to withstand disasters that may happen. The Nagoya University Safety Confirmation System is an important tool for confirming the safety of all students and staff after a disaster. For more details, please check here:

Returnee (帰国子女)

Japanese passport holders and permanent residents of Japan need to fulfill the same admission requirements as international applicants. Please read the admission requirements and feel free to contact Admission Office if you have any questions.

連帯保証人が日本国内に在住している場合は、学生および連帯保証人の双方の合意のもと、修得単位通知表をお送りします。
