Note: There will be no Second Round for the Biological Science Program (School of Science), the Social Sciences Program and the Japan-in-Asia Cultural Studies Program.

Wherever you currently live, you can simply apply through the Nagoya University Online Admissions System. We employ a comprehensive selection approach and the admission consists of two parts: paper-screening and interview/oral examination. There will be no paper examination during the screening process; thus, your academic background will be evaluated based on your school records, essays, and recommendation letters while we also take into consideration non-academic activities, such as extra-curricular activities or volunteer work.
Based on the application documents submitted, short-listed applicants will be invited for the next screening, an interview/oral examination, which will be conducted via video conference system or Voice over Internet Protocol.
The admissions results will be announced on the online admissions system and you will also receive an email of your application status change.

 

1. Eligibility to Apply
Please confirm your eligibility by reading the admission requirements carefully before starting your application. If you are not sure about your eligibility, please send an inquiry to the Admissions Office a month before the first day of the application round for which you are applying.

2. Apply Online by Online Admissions System
After creating your account, you will be asked to input your personal information and academic background into the online admissions system. You also need to upload soft copies of most of the supporting documents into the system in order to complete the online application. However, you still need to submit originals or certified true copies of some required documents if you pass the primary screening. Please see the list of supporting documents below for details and refer on how to submit these documents below. The admissions system also facilitates the submission of references by your teachers if they prefer to send their reference letters electronically.

List of Supporting Documents

Your application can be complete and evaluated for the primary screening without submitting to us the original documents. However, we still require documents with * to be original or certified true copies if you pass the primary screening. If you submit only soft copies at the time of application, please send the original or certified true copies by the following deadline (please refer on how to submit these documents here.
You can ask your counselor to contact the Admissions Office directly, regarding document submission.

Note:
1. All application documents submitted cannot be returned under any circumstances. Thus, if the original document can be issued only once, please submit a certified true copy. The certified true copy can be issued by your school, the Japanese embassy, or a notary office. For more information about the supporting documents, please click here for the admission requirements.
2. Applicants who do not submit the originals by the designated deadline will be excluded from the secondary screening stage (interview).

High/Secondary School Graduation Diploma (required)*
Upload a soft copy of the certificate of graduation (or prospective graduation) on the online admissions system. An original of the documents which bears an official seal or signature of the school must be submitted if you passed the primary screening. Prospective graduation documents could be any document or letter issued by your school, which indicates the expected date of your graduation.
Academic Transcript (required)*
Academic transcripts must include grades from the last 2 or more years of high school.
Upload a soft copy of your official high school transcript on the online admissions system. An original which bears an official seal or signature of the school must be submitted if you passed the primary screening.
Standardized Test Scores (if applicable)*
Submit scores from a standardized examination or a national examination. Official scores should be sent to the Admissions Office, directly by the testing institution.

In case the official score report does not arrive at our office by the deadline, please upload a soft copy of your score report or screenshot of the scores on the online admission system.

Note: For applicants who have not graduated from their high schools at the time of application, we expect them to submit the latest academic records/results, predicted scores or forecast of the final results with their application. 
English Language Proficiency Test Score (if applicable)*
Please submit scores/proof of the English proficiency requirement. Official scores should be sent directly from the testing institution by the deadline.

Two Essays (required)
Upload the two required essays on the online admissions system. Essay questions can be found on the last page of the admission requirements. Each essay should be in Word format. Essay 1 would be about 200 to 300 words while essay 2 would be 400 to 500 words long in English. 
Two Reference Letters (required)
Submit two reference letters. Letters need to be sent directly by your referees either through the online admissions system, from the official school email address or by post. Please follow the instructions on the online admission system. If your referees prefer to submit the evaluation by post, you need to fulfill the part for applicants first and pass it to the referees.

One reference must come from a teacher (Referee A) in the field (subject area) the applicant wishes to major in, and the other reference must come from a teacher or counselor (Referee B) who is able to evaluate the applicant’s character.

Referees need to be employed at an accredited education institute where the applicant has been or is currently enrolled.

Nagoya University Global 30 Scholarship Application and
Income Statement (if applicable)
When you submit your application for the G30 International Programs, you will automatically be considered as an applicant for the G30 Scholarship. Please upload both a scholarship application form and an income statement of your financial supporter on the online admissions system. The income statement should cover the annual income and be translated into English. If you have decided not to be considered for the G30 Scholarship, it is not required to submit it.

Step 3. Pay Application Fee
Once you complete your online application, you are required to pay a non-refundable application fee (5,000 JPY) via the online admission system using PayPal. If you have any problems paying the fee through PayPal, you can choose to pay through bank transfer, but please note that it will take longer to confirm your payment and issue the application number. After you complete your payment, an application number will be given to you and you can check your application status by logging into the Online Admissions System.
Please note that you will be considered an applicant only after the application fee is paid. Upon confirmation of your payment, the Admissions Office will check your application documents and contact you regarding any missing documents through the online admission system.
 
Step 4. Keep Checking on Your Application Status
After you complete your online application, the admission office will start to check the documents that you submit both through the system and via post, and inform you of any missing documents in order to help you complete the application by the deadline.
The message function can also be used on the online admissions system, which makes it easier for us to communicate with you regarding your application documents. 
In addition, the primary and final screening results will be announced on the system on the date specified on the admission requirements, so please make sure to check the results as soon as possible. Especially when we announce the primary screening result, interview details will be shown on your page including the date and the interview method and you can just reply to our invitation through the system. The interview/oral examination will take about 45 minutes for Engineering and Science programs and about 30 minutes for Social Sciences and Japan -in-Asia Cultural Studies programs. As it is important for us to receive your response, please keep checking your page even after you complete the online application.
